Recent Commission - Oil Pastel
When my dog Jack passed away a year and a half ago I was lost. If you have shared your soul with a dog and been the lucky recipient of their unconditional love, then nothing else needs to be said - you understand. My therapy for dealing with Jack's loss was to pick up my oil pastels and start painting. There was no planning, no base sketch, I just started painting and after a few days I looked down and there was Jack. He now occupies a prominent spot on our mantel where my wife and I can see him every day.
Two weeks ago we welcomed a new member into our family when "Jake" Pasco came to live with us. He is definitely all puppy and I'm sure Jack is looking down on us and smiling as he watches us chase Jake all over the house and yard.
I have always turned down commission work, preferring instead to go where my thoughts take me when working on a piece of art. However, when dealing with Jack's passing I had a change of heart - I realized that I am not the only person on earth who loves his dog and that others may appreciate a memento to honor their best friend.
